Hundreds of participants attended Cranford's July 3 Celebration of America's 250th Birthday at the Cranford Recreation Center. There were 13 stations representing the 13 original Colonies, sharing demonstrations, interactive presentations, displays and crafts.

In late June, nine Scouts and seven parents from Cranford’s Troop 80 attended the Sea Base High Adventure Scout Camp in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The trip was organized by Troop 80 dad Ron Scorese. For the first three days and nights, the Scouts stayed at the Sea Base camp in air-conditioned cabins. Scouts got to go paddle boarding, snorkeling and kayaking in the mangroves. They saw a sea turtle while snorkeling. They also learned the basics of sailing, and unfortunately some of the new sailors initially suffered sea sickness while on the high seas.

Three animals from two area rescue organizations are looking for homes this fall.

October is Rett Syndrome awareness month. Rett syndrome is a very rare disorder that some babies are born with. Girls are affected more but there is a very small percentage of boys that have it also. It affects your brain, muscles, and development because your cells are not able to make the MECP2 gene it needs.

The Summit Area Old Guard, a social, educational and recreational organization for men of retirement age, will host three public speakers in October at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 1307 Springfield Ave. Visitors are welcome, and admission is free.

Cranford Day 2026, a free showcase of local organizations, will be held Sunday, Nov. 1, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Ave.

Cranford will host its Annual Fall Street Fest on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along North Union Avenue and Alden Street.

Cranford residents will have an opportunity to hear directly from all four Township Committee candidates at a forum sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cranford on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 328 of Clark sent two local students to the New Jersey Girls State Convention in June: Cranford’s Klaire Keogh and Garwood’s Courtney Kilmer. The annual leadership and citizenship program was held June 21-25 at Centenary University in Hackettstown.

The American Red Cross is asking eligible donors to make a blood or platelet appointment this fall as the organization works to rebuild supplies following a summer shortage.
